RECALL CASES ANALYSIS OF APPAREL AND FOOTWEAR – MARCH 2017

European Union

EU RAPEX systems notified 28 cases in which 11% were notified because of strangulation or other injuries. 3 children’s apparel do not comply drawstring regulation. 2 children’s apparel were notified because they pose a risk of choking and contain small parts which can easily detach and be swallowed by small children. 1 fancy-dress beard was notified because the beard is highly flammable and can cause burns. 18 safety shoes were notified because the safety toe caps are not sufficiently resistant to impact and/or compression, posing a risk of injury to the wearer’s toes. In chemical risks, 3 products contain chromium VI exceeding the permitted level, and 1 product contains excessive AZO dye.

U.S.A.

2 children’s apparel were recalled because they contain small parts which can easily detach and be swallowed by small children. 1 children’s robe was recalled because it fails to meet federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children. 1 children’s hooded sweatshirt was recalled because it has a drawstring in the hood, which poses a strangulation hazard to children. 1 snowshoe was recalled because the plastic material on the snowshoe can weaken and break during use, posing a fall hazard to users.

Canada

1 children’s robe was recalled because it fails to meet federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children. 1 infant cap was recalled because it contains small parts which can easily detach and be swallowed by small children.
